How to cancel YouTube Premium

The fastest way

Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships, click Manage membership, then Deactivate, and confirm. If you joined in the iPhone app, cancel in your Apple subscriptions instead.

Cancel on a computer

  1. Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships.
  2. Click Manage membership, then Deactivate.
  3. Continue to the cancellation, pick a reason and click Next.
  4. Click Yes, cancel.

To check it worked, look at the status on youtube.com/paid_memberships.

Cancel in the YouTube app on Android

  1. Tap your profile picture, then Paid memberships.
  2. Tap the membership you want to cancel.
  3. Continue to the cancellation, choose a reason and tap Next.
  4. Tap Yes, cancel.

On iPhone or iPad, cancelling in the YouTube app only works if you joined from the iOS app. If Google bills you, cancel on a computer or Android device instead.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

If you subscribed to YouTube Premium through the App Store, Apple bills you, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down. If there's no cancel button, or you see red expiration text, it's already cancelled.

If you joined from the YouTube iPhone app, you cancel through Apple, and refunds follow Apple’s policy. Apple-billed memberships can’t be paused.

Cancel on Android (billed by Google Play)

If you subscribed to YouTube Premium through Google Play, cancel it in Google Play.

  1. On your Android device, open your subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you signed up through Google Play billing, cancel in your Google Play subscriptions.

Good to know before you cancel

  • You keep Premium until the end of your current billing cycle.
  • You can pause for 1 to 6 months instead, from the cancel screen. Annual plans and Apple-billed memberships can’t be paused.
  • Partly used prepaid plans, including annual plans, aren’t refunded.
  • To end access immediately with a refund, you have to contact YouTube support.

Will I get a refund?

Not for the rest of your billing cycle, and partly used prepaid plans aren’t refundable. To cancel immediately and get a refund, contact YouTube support. For Apple-billed memberships, ask Apple.

When does my access end?

Your benefits continue until the end of the current billing cycle, and you won’t be charged again.

What if I’m on a free trial?

The trial turns into a paid membership unless you cancel before it ends. If you cancel during the trial, you keep Premium until the trial ends.

Can I pause instead of cancelling?

Yes, for 1 to 6 months, starting after your current billing cycle, and you aren’t charged while paused. Annual plans and Apple-billed memberships can’t be paused.
