How to cancel HBO Max

Sign in to HBO Max in a web browser, open your profile’s Subscription page and choose to cancel. No cancel option there? Another company bills you — cancel with them.

Cancel on the web

  1. Sign in to HBO Max in a web browser and open your profile’s Subscription page.
  2. Check the top of the page to see who bills you.
  3. If HBO Max bills you, choose the option to cancel your subscription.
  4. Confirm, and note the date your access ends.

If there’s no cancel option, another company bills you. Only adult profiles can manage the subscription.

If Amazon or Roku bills you

  1. Amazon: turn off auto-renewal for HBO Max in your Amazon app subscriptions, or cancel the HBO Max channel in your Prime Video Channels settings.
  2. Roku: in your Roku account’s subscriptions (my.roku.com), find HBO Max and turn off auto-renew.

If your internet, phone or TV provider bills you

  1. Check who bills you at the top of your HBO Max Subscription page, or on your statement.
  2. Cancel through that provider’s account page or help center.
  3. If HBO Max is an add-on to your Hulu plan, remove it from the add-ons on your Hulu Account page.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

If you subscribed to HBO Max through the App Store, Apple bills you, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down. If there's no cancel button, or you see red expiration text, it's already cancelled.

HBO Max says Apple-billed subscriptions are cancelled in your Apple subscription settings, signed in with the Apple Account you subscribed with. You can stream until the billing period ends.

Cancel on Android (billed by Google Play)

If you subscribed to HBO Max through Google Play, cancel it in Google Play.

  1. On your Android device, open your subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

HBO Max says Google-billed subscriptions are cancelled in Google Play, signed in with the Google account you subscribed with. You can stream until the billing period ends.

Good to know before you cancel

  • HBO Max renews automatically until you cancel; deleting the app doesn’t cancel it.
  • If HBO Max bills you, cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid another charge.
  • Cancelling your plan also cancels its add-ons.

Will I get a refund?

HBO Max’s refund article says subscriptions it bills directly have a no-refund policy. If Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku or another company bills you, that company’s refund policy applies.

When does my access end?

You can keep streaming until the end of your billing period.

Can I change my mind?

Yes, before it expires — go back to your Subscription page and resume your subscription.

I subscribed through Apple or Google. Where do I cancel?

In Apple’s or Google Play’s subscription settings, signed in with the account you subscribed with. HBO Max can’t cancel those for you.
