How to cancel Xbox Game Pass

The fastest way

Go to account.microsoft.com/services, sign in with the Microsoft account you used to buy the subscription, select Manage, then Cancel subscription. You can also cancel on your Xbox console under Settings > Account > Subscriptions. Your benefits continue until the subscription’s expiration date.

Cancel on the web

  1. Go to Subscriptions at account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account you used to purchase your subscription.
  2. Find your subscription and select Manage.
  3. Select Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.
  4. If you’re eligible for a refund, you can choose to cancel immediately with a refund.

Xbox says it’s important to use the account that bought the subscription. If you see Turn on recurring billing instead of Manage, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and you won’t be charged after that.

Cancel on your Xbox console

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Subscriptions.
  3. Choose the subscription you want to manage and select Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the steps to cancel. If you’re eligible, you may be prompted to start a refund.

If someone else or a third party pays

  1. If you pay for another person’s subscription, ask the owner of the Microsoft account that holds it to sign in and cancel.
  2. If a third party bills you for your subscription, contact them about cancellations and refunds.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

If you subscribed to Xbox Game Pass through the App Store, Apple bills you, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down. If there's no cancel button, or you see red expiration text, it's already cancelled.

Microsoft’s cancellation article says that if you bought a Microsoft subscription from the Apple App Store, you contact Apple support for cancellation or a refund.

Cancel on Android (billed by Google Play)

If you subscribed to Xbox Game Pass through Google Play, cancel it in Google Play.

  1. On your Android device, open your subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Microsoft’s cancellation article says that if you bought a Microsoft subscription from Google Play, you contact Google Play support for cancellation or a refund.

Good to know before you cancel

  • Canceling or turning off recurring billing stops future charges, and you keep the subscription’s benefits until its expiration date.
  • Sign in with the Microsoft account you used to purchase the subscription. If you don’t see a Manage link, the subscription may already be set to expire.
  • To get a refund, you have to go through the cancellation steps. Xbox says refund requests outside of those processes are not eligible.
  • Prepaid retail subscription codes aren’t covered by Xbox’s refund policy. The retailer’s return policy applies.

Will I get a refund?

Maybe. Xbox says you can get a refund within 30 days of your initial purchase or before your first recurring billing date, whichever is sooner, by canceling through its steps. You can also get a refund of your most recent recurring charge if you cancel within 30 days after payment, once per Microsoft account, per Xbox subscription product. Xbox’s page also lists Canada among the places where you can cancel with immediate effect and get a prorated refund for the last subscription charge.

When does my access end after I cancel?

Xbox says turning off recurring billing stops future charges and gives you the subscription’s benefits until its expiration date. If you’re eligible for a refund, you’ll see an option to cancel immediately with a refund.

I see an Xbox charge but no active subscription. What’s going on?

Xbox says your payment option may be linked to another Microsoft account that has an Xbox subscription, such as another member of your Xbox family group. Sign in and review each account’s subscriptions on its own.

Can I cancel someone else’s subscription?

No. Xbox says the owner of the Microsoft account that has the subscription must sign in to cancel it, on an Xbox console or on the web.
