Cancel on Amazon

  1. Go to Cancel Kindle Unlimited at amazon.com/kindle-dbs/hz/cancel and sign in to your Amazon account.
  2. Select Cancel membership.
  3. Follow the instructions on your screen.

These steps are for memberships you signed up for through Amazon. Amazon’s terms also say you can cancel by contacting its Customer Service team.

If a third party bills you

  1. Check whether you signed up through Amazon or through a third party.
  2. If a third party bills you, contact them to cancel your membership or ask about a refund.

Amazon’s terms say that for third-party sign-ups, that company’s billing terms and refund policies apply.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

If you subscribed to Kindle Unlimited through the App Store, Apple bills you, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down. If there's no cancel button, or you see red expiration text, it's already cancelled.

Don't see Kindle Unlimited there? Make sure you're signed in with the Apple Account that was charged. If you have no receipt from Apple for it, another company bills you — use the steps above.

Cancel on Android (billed by Google Play)

If you subscribed to Kindle Unlimited through Google Play, cancel it in Google Play.

  1. On your Android device, open your subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel the subscription.

Good to know before you cancel

  • After you cancel, your membership remains active until the next billing date. After that date passes, you lose access to content you have checked out, and Amazon’s terms say the titles you selected from the program are removed from your account, devices and apps.
  • You can pause your monthly subscription for 1 month instead of canceling. The pause starts at the end of the billing cycle and resumes automatically, or you can resume any time. You can’t pause during a free trial or promotional period.
  • If you’re on a free trial, you’re automatically converted to a monthly paid subscription at the end of it.
  • There’s no partial refund for unused months on a prepaid (gift or bundle) Kindle Unlimited membership.

Kindle Unlimited cancellation FAQ

Will I get a refund?

Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited Terms of Use say that if you cancel, you won’t receive a refund of membership fees you already paid, but you keep your benefits until the end of your subscription period. Amazon’s help page adds that unused months on a prepaid (gift or bundle) membership aren’t refunded.

When does my access end after I cancel?

Amazon says your membership remains active until the next billing date. After that date passes, you lose access to content you have checked out. If you cancel before the renewal date, its terms say you won’t be charged for the next subscription period.

Can I pause instead of canceling?

Sometimes. Amazon says you can pause your monthly subscription for 1 month, starting at the end of the billing cycle. It resumes automatically, or you can resume any time while paused. You can’t pause during a free trial or promotional period.

What happens at the end of a free trial?

Amazon says that at the end of your free trial you’re automatically converted to a monthly paid subscription. Its terms say your membership continues automatically unless you tell Amazon before a charge that you want to cancel.
