Rocket Money, explained

Does Rocket Money cancel subscriptions for free?

The short answer

No. On Rocket Money’s free plan you can see and track your subscriptions, but you cancel them yourself. Having Rocket Money’s team cancel one for you is a Premium feature (Premium+ includes it too). Premium is pay-what-you-choose — $7 to $14 a month, per Rocket Money’s own pages — and new members get a 7-day free trial.[1][2][3][4]

How Rocket Money’s cancellation service works

  • You submit a cancellation request in the app, and Rocket Money’s team contacts the provider for you.[2]
  • By asking, you make Rocket Money your limited agent to cancel that service — its terms say its agents may present themselves as the account holder to do it.[6]
  • To verify the account, its terms say it gives the provider details such as your account number and a security code or other credentials.[6]
  • It typically takes 2–10 business days, depending on the merchant.[7]
  • A charge can still go through before the cancellation is confirmed, depending on your billing cycle.[2]
  • Rocket Money says it will try to get you refunds when possible.[8]
  • Any early-cancellation fee the provider charges is between you and the provider — not a Rocket Money fee.[6]

What Rocket Money can’t cancel

  • Anything without a Cancel option in the app — Rocket Money says that means it can’t cancel that provider yet, and shows you how to do it yourself.[2]
  • Subscriptions billed through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku or PayPal — you cancel those on that platform.[9][2]
  • Providers that require you to authenticate, cancel in person, or put up bots and other roadblocks.[2][10]

Cancelling for free, yourself

Every subscription can be cancelled by you at no charge from the company. Our step-by-step guides follow each company’s own help pages:

How Wally does it instead

Wally isn’t free either ($6.99 a month on iPhone, or $69.99 a year with a 7-day free trial ($69.99 a year on the web)). The difference is who does the work and when: ask Wally to cancel, and it works through the company’s website in its own browser right away while you watch. For about 20 popular services it starts on the cancel page; on other sites it works best effort. You sign in yourself — your password goes to the company, never to Wally. Like Rocket Money, it can’t cancel subscriptions billed through Apple or Google Play for you, or anything that needs a phone call or a visit.
