How to cancel YouTube Music Premium

Cancel on a computer

  1. Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships.
  2. Click Manage membership.
  3. Click Deactivate.
  4. Click Continue to cancel.
  5. Select your reason for canceling, then click Next.
  6. Click Yes, cancel.

To check it worked, look at the Status field on youtube.com/paid_memberships.

Cancel on an Android phone or tablet

  1. Tap your profile picture, then Paid memberships.
  2. Tap the membership you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Continue to cancel.
  4. Select your reason for canceling, then tap Next.
  5. Tap Yes, cancel.

If you signed up through Google Play billing, YouTube says to cancel in your Google Play account settings instead.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

If you subscribed to YouTube Music Premium through the App Store, Apple bills you, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down. If there's no cancel button, or you see red expiration text, it's already cancelled.

YouTube says that if you joined from the YouTube iPhone app, you can cancel your paid membership from your Apple account. Pausing isn’t available to people billed through Apple. If Google bills you, YouTube says iPhone users must cancel on a non-iOS device, such as a computer.

Cancel on Android (billed by Google Play)

If you subscribed to YouTube Music Premium through Google Play, cancel it in Google Play.

  1. On your Android device, open your subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

YouTube says new Premium and Music Premium subscribers who signed up on Android since 2022 are billed through Google Play, and that you cancel within your Google Play account settings. You can check how you’re billed at payments.google.com.

Good to know before you cancel

  • Your benefits continue until the end of the billing period after you cancel, and you won’t be charged again unless you re-subscribe.
  • YouTube’s cancel steps cover both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium. youtube.com/paid_memberships is where you view and manage your paid membership and confirm the Status after canceling.
  • You can pause for 1 to 6 months instead of canceling. Annual plans can’t be paused, and neither can memberships billed through Apple or Google Play.
  • Check who bills you first: Apple if you joined in the YouTube iPhone app, Google Play if you have access through a Google Play subscription.

Will I get a refund?

YouTube says you won’t be refunded for the period between when you cancel and when your membership ends, and refunds aren’t available for partially used prepaid plans such as annual plans. To cancel immediately and get a refund, YouTube says to contact its support team. For Apple purchases, YouTube says to contact Apple support.

When does my access end after I cancel?

YouTube says your benefits continue until the end of the billing cycle, and you won’t be charged again unless you re-subscribe.

Can I pause instead of canceling?

Yes, in some cases. YouTube says you can pause for 1 to 6 months, starting after the end of your current billing cycle. While paused, you and any family members lose the benefits, and downloaded music is kept but can’t be played until you resume. Annual plans and memberships billed through Apple or Google Play can’t be paused.

Apple or Google Play bills me. Where do I cancel?

YouTube says to cancel from your Apple account if you joined in the YouTube iPhone app, or in your Google Play account settings if you have access through a Google Play subscription.
