Good to know before you cancel

  • Cancel more than 2 days before your billing date. Microsoft says a cancellation made too close to the billing date can still result in a charge.
  • Cancelling drops your storage to 5 GB of cloud storage (OneDrive and Outlook.com attachments) plus 15 GB of Outlook.com storage. If you’re over that, you can’t upload, edit or sync new OneDrive files or send and receive email in Outlook.com, and Microsoft may later delete your OneDrive files.
  • If you cancel Microsoft 365 Family or Premium, everyone you share it with also gets a lower storage allowance.
  • If you owe an overdue amount, you can’t cancel until it’s paid. Make sure the card on file hasn’t expired.
  • Not every cancellation earns a refund. For subscriptions bought from Microsoft, you have to cancel first to see whether you qualify.

Microsoft 365 cancellation FAQ

Will I get a refund?

It depends on timing. Microsoft says you may get a refund if you cancel within 30 days of your initial purchase or before your first recurring billing date, whichever is sooner. You may also get your most recent recurring charge back if you cancel within 30 days after payment, but only once per Microsoft account per subscription product. Microsoft decides eligibility automatically while you cancel. Its refund policy says prorated refunds aren’t available in the US for Basic, Personal or Family, but are available in Canada if you cancel at any time.

When does my access end?

If no refund is issued, access typically continues until the end of the current billing period. Microsoft says you, and anyone you share Family with, can keep using the subscription as normal until the expiry date shown in your account.

I bought Microsoft 365 through Apple, Google Play or a store. Where do I cancel?

Not with Microsoft. Microsoft says to contact Apple or Google Play support for cancellation or a refund, or the retailer (such as Amazon or Best Buy) if you bought it there.

Can I undo it?

Before the subscription expires, sign in at account.microsoft.com/services, select Manage and choose Turn on recurring billing. If you see Renew or Resubscribe, choose it instead to renew.
