How to cancel Match

The fastest way

Log in to Match, open Manage Subscription from the gear icon, and turn off auto-renewal. If you subscribed through Apple, cancel in your Apple subscriptions instead. You keep your benefits until your subscription period ends, but cancelling a free trial ends access immediately.

Heads up: Match’s help article points desktop users to a Manage Subscription page and a video for the exact clicks, and doesn’t spell out the final cancel button in text, so the last step is described in general terms.

Cancel on the Match website (desktop)

  1. Log in to Match on a desktop and click the gear icon.
  2. Click Manage Subscription, then Subscription Status.
  3. Follow the steps to turn off auto-renewal.

Cancel in the Match app or on mobile web

  1. Log in and tap the Profile icon, then the gear icon.
  2. Tap Manage Subscription. You may need to tap Manage Account first.
  3. Tap Subscription Status and follow the steps to turn off auto-renewal.

These steps are for a subscription you bought from Match directly. If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, cancel there instead.

Cancel a free trial

  1. Go to Manage Subscription in your account settings.
  2. Re-enter your password.
  3. Complete all the steps to cancel.

Match says cancelling a free trial immediately ends your access. You can turn your trial back on before it ends, but auto-renewal is switched back on too.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

If you subscribed to Match through the App Store, Apple bills you, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down. If there's no cancel button, or you see red expiration text, it's already cancelled.

Match says that if you subscribed through Apple, cancellation and refund requests are handled by Apple, not Match.

Cancel on Android (billed by Google Play)

If you subscribed to Match through Google Play, cancel it in Google Play.

  1. On your Android device, open your subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Match’s Terms say that if you subscribed on Google Play, cancellation is handled by Google.

Good to know before you cancel

  • Cancelling a free trial immediately ends your access. A paid subscription keeps its benefits until the end of your subscription period.
  • Cancelling a subscription isn’t the same as removing your profile. Once auto-renewal is off, you can cancel your membership, which hides your profile and photos, or delete your account from Settings.
  • Add-on features such as Private Mode are cancelled separately, with Deactivate under Subscription Status. That doesn’t cancel your main subscription.
  • If you cancel a Platinum subscription, Match says you can’t downgrade to Silver or Bronze at this time.
  • Deleting your account or the app doesn’t cancel a subscription bought through Apple or Google Play. Cancel it through that store to avoid more billing.

Will I get a refund?

Usually not. Match’s Terms say that, generally, all purchases are nonrefundable, with no refunds or credits for partially used or unused subscription periods except where the law provides them. The Terms list special rules for subscribers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island and Wisconsin, who can cancel without penalty before midnight of the third business day after subscribing. If you subscribed through Apple, Apple handles refund requests.

When does my Match access end?

At the end of your subscription period. Match’s Terms say that if you cancel, you keep your subscription benefits until then, and the subscription expires after that. Cancelling a free trial is different: Match says it ends your access immediately.

How can I check when my subscription renews or ends?

Open the gear icon, then Manage Subscription, then Subscription Status. Match says your subscription end date and renewal status are shown there.

Does cancelling my subscription delete my profile?

No. Match’s Terms say cancelling a subscription doesn’t remove your profile. Match’s help says that once auto-renewal is off, you can cancel your membership from Manage Subscription in your account settings, which hides your profile and photos, and you can reactivate any time by signing in. Match’s Terms also let you delete your account from Settings (the gear icon) by choosing Delete account.
