How to cancel LA Fitness

LA Fitness says most club memberships are month-to-month and can be cancelled at any time by mailing written notice, in person at a club’s front desk, or through your online account. A mailed notice postmarked at least 5 business days before your next billing date should stop further billing.

Heads up: LA Fitness’s FAQ lists mail, in person and your online account as ways to cancel, but it doesn’t describe the screens after you sign in, and your own agreement can change the notice, fees and methods (for example, email in some states).

Cancel in your online account

Sign in to your online account on lafitness.com.
Look for the option to cancel your membership.
Watch for the confirmation email LA Fitness says it sends.
If you have more than one membership, repeat the process for each one.

Cancel at your club

Go to your LA Fitness club.
See the front desk and ask to cancel your membership.

For questions about cancelling a paid-in-full agreement, LA Fitness says to visit your local club or contact it.

Cancel by mail

Write a notice of cancellation.
Mail it to P.O. Box 54170, Irvine, CA 92619.
Send it by registered or certified mail, as LA Fitness recommends, and keep a record for your files.

Postmark your notice at least 5 business days before your next billing date. If it is postmarked within 5 business days, you may be billed once more, and LA Fitness says it will refund that additional billing.

Good to know before you cancel

If your agreement has an initial term of three months or more and you cancel during it, the cancellation takes effect when the initial term ends. LA Fitness says a termination fee applies if you want to cancel before the end of the initial term.
You can keep using the club for any pre-paid time. Your membership expires at the end of the last prepaid month.
Your agreement may provide other ways to cancel. LA Fitness gives email as an example, depending on your state of enrollment.
If you have more than one membership, you need to complete the cancellation process for each one.

Will I get a refund?

LA Fitness’s FAQ doesn’t state a general refund policy. It says that if your mailed notice is postmarked within 5 business days of your billing date and you are billed once more, it will refund that additional billing.

When does my membership end?

LA Fitness says you may keep using the club for any pre-paid time, and your membership expires at the end of the last prepaid month. If you are inside an initial term of three months or more, the cancellation takes effect when the initial term ends.

Can I freeze my membership instead?

Yes. LA Fitness suggests a freeze as an alternative if you won’t use your membership for more than 30 days and your dues are more than $10 a month. Monthly dues members can suspend for $10 per month, and paid-in-full members can suspend for up to 6 months for a $35 freeze fee. LA Fitness says weekly dues members can’t suspend, and that you sign in and use the Freeze link in the left side menu.

I’m moving. Do I have to cancel?

Not necessarily. LA Fitness says that if you are relocating, it has clubs in other areas, and points you to the Locations tab on its homepage to find one near you.
