How to cancel Duolingo Super

The fastest way

Cancel the same way you subscribed. In the Duolingo app, tap the Super icon, then Settings, Manage subscription and Cancel subscription. On the web, open Settings, then Super Duolingo, then Cancel subscription. You keep Super features for the rest of the period you’ve paid for.

Heads up: Duolingo’s cancel article is written for Super Duolingo. It doesn’t give separate steps for Duolingo Max, which is sold only in the iOS and Android apps.

Cancel in the Duolingo app (iOS or Android)

  1. Open the Duolingo app.
  2. Tap the Super icon at the top of the home screen.
  3. Tap Settings (the gear icon), then tap Manage subscription.
  4. Select Cancel subscription and continue through the prompts.
  5. Confirm the cancellation through the App Store, Google Play or Alipay.

Cancel on the web

  1. Sign in to your Duolingo account in a web browser.
  2. Click your profile picture at the top of the home screen and choose Settings.
  3. Select Super Duolingo.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

If you subscribed to Duolingo Super through the App Store, Apple bills you, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down. If there's no cancel button, or you see red expiration text, it's already cancelled.

Duolingo’s in-app cancel steps end with a confirmation through the App Store, and for a subscription started in your iPhone’s settings it points to Apple’s instructions. It also says refunds for iOS subscriptions are handled by Apple, not Duolingo.

Good to know before you cancel

  • Deleting the app or your Duolingo account does not cancel your subscription.
  • You cancel through the place you subscribed: in the app, in a web browser, or through your phone’s settings. Duolingo says the platform where you first subscribed is where you manage the subscription.
  • If you’re on a Super Family Plan, Duolingo says only the family manager can manage the subscription.
  • Duolingo Max can only be bought in the iOS and Android apps, not on the web.
  • Your streak and learning progress aren’t affected when you cancel.

Duolingo Super cancellation FAQ

Will I get a refund?

Generally not. Duolingo says charges for in-app purchases are generally nonrefundable, with no refunds or credits for partially used periods. Cancelling doesn’t refund past payments, and fees already charged can’t be prorated by cancellation date. Apple handles refunds for iOS subscriptions. For web or Android subscriptions, Duolingo’s article says to contact Duolingo support.

When does my access end?

Duolingo says you can use Super Duolingo features for the rest of your subscription period, and you won’t be billed automatically after you cancel.

Can I undo a cancellation?

Yes. Duolingo says you can reactivate your subscription at any time. Its Family Plan article also mentions a Keep my Subscription button on your Profile in the app if you’ve canceled auto-renewal but your subscription hasn’t expired yet.

What if I’m having a problem with my subscription?

Duolingo says to submit a bug report and choose Purchase Issue from the drop-down. It adds that it can’t access the iOS App Store or resolve issues with that service.
