How to cancel Fido

The fastest way

In Canada, Fido says you cancel by calling it: its help says it needs a call to process your cancellation request, and its Terms of Service give 1 888 481-3436 for mobile (or *611 from your Fido phone). Cancellation takes effect on the day Fido receives notice, or a later date you specify.

Cancel by phone

  1. Decide whether you want the cancellation to start right away or on a later date.
  2. For mobile services, call 1 888 481-3436, or call *611 from your Fido phone (a free call). For home services, call 1 888 236-3436, or *388 from your Fido phone.
  3. Tell the representative which services to cancel. Fido says the call lets it process your request and make sure you know the details relating to your account.
  4. Watch for Fido’s email saying your final bill is ready.

Fido’s Terms of Service also list live chat at fido.ca/contactus and visiting a Fido store as ways to contact Fido, but they say you cancel by calling.

Good to know before you cancel

  • Fido says your final bill will include your remaining monthly service fees, any unbilled charges such as roaming and data overages, and any balance remaining on your device subsidy. The CRTC’s Wireless Code says that when a subsidized device is part of the contract, the early cancellation fee must not exceed the value of the device subsidy.
  • Fido says that if you cancel in the middle of a billing period you receive a prorated refund for monthly fees, paid by cheque, which usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.
  • If you cancel a Term Service before its Term ends, Fido’s Terms of Service say you pay the early cancellation fee described in the service agreement for that Term Service.
  • If you only cancel an add-on, the Terms of Service say the cancellation takes effect on your next billing date for that add-on, and its charges continue until then.
  • Your Fido My Account profile stays active for an additional 12 months after cancellation, so you can review past bills and pay your final bill online.

Fido cancellation FAQ

Can I cancel Fido online or without calling?

Fido’s help says it needs you to give it a call to process a cancellation, and its Terms of Service say you cancel by calling the number it lists. The Terms list live chat at fido.ca/contactus and visiting a Fido store among the ways to contact Fido, but they don’t say a cancellation can be completed there. What you can do online is schedule a temporary pause in My Account.

When does the cancellation take effect, and when is my final bill?

Fido’s Terms say cancellation takes effect on the day Fido receives notice, or a future date in your notice, whichever is later, and charges continue until then. The CRTC’s Wireless Code likewise says cancellation takes effect on the day the provider receives notice. After you cancel a smartphone plan, Fido says your final bill is generated on your next regular billing date and it emails you when the bill is ready.

Will I get a refund?

Fido says a mid-cycle cancellation earns a prorated refund for monthly fees, sent by cheque in about 4 to 6 weeks. Its Terms also say most credit balances on a final bill are refunded to your card on file or by cheque, and for balances under or over a specified amount you must contact Fido to process the refund.

Can I pause my plan instead, or come back later?

Fido says you can pause a line that has been active for at least 30 days, if you have no balance owing or have Automatic Payments set up. The pause lasts at least 30 days, up to 185 total days per calendar year, and you remain responsible for the device’s monthly financing payments. If you change your mind about leaving, Fido says to contact one of its advisors to come back.
