How to cancel LegalZoom

Cancel online in My Account

  1. Sign in to My Account on legalzoom.com.
  2. Go to the Account tab, then the Manage Payments section.
  3. Click on your subscription.
  4. Click the Cancel link.

LegalZoom’s subscription terms say you can cancel at any time online through your account portal.

Cancel by phone

  1. Call LegalZoom Customer Care at (888) 310-0151.
  2. Ask to cancel your subscription.

LegalZoom says it’s available by phone Monday to Friday, 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PT. For orders rather than subscriptions, it says to call (800) 773-0888.

Cancel an eSignature plan

  1. Call LegalZoom at (888) 379-0854.
  2. Ask to cancel your eSignature plan.

LegalZoom’s FAQ gives this number for eSignature plans: Monday to Friday 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PT, weekends 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT. The plan stays active until the current subscription period ends.

Cancel Registered Agent Services

  1. Name a new registered agent and file the change with your state.
  2. Get proof of the change: a copy of the filed document, a copy of an annual report that includes the new agent, or a screenshot of the new agent’s info on the state’s site.
  3. Sign in to My Account and upload the proof.
  4. Go to the Account tab, then the Manage Payments section.
  5. Click your Registered Agent Services subscription, then the cancel link.

LegalZoom says most states require a registered agent on file at all times, so you need to name a new one before you can cancel.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)

If you subscribed to LegalZoom through the App Store, Apple bills you, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down. If there's no cancel button, or you see red expiration text, it's already cancelled.

Don't see LegalZoom there? Make sure you're signed in with the Apple Account that was charged. If you have no receipt from Apple for it, another company bills you — use the steps above.

Cancel on Android (billed by Google Play)

If you subscribed to LegalZoom through Google Play, cancel it in Google Play.

  1. On your Android device, open your subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel the subscription.

Good to know before you cancel

  • After you cancel, LegalZoom says your subscription no longer renews automatically at the end of the service term, and it stays active until the end of the current period unless the terms say otherwise.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically. LegalZoom says monthly plans renew each month without notice, and for six-month and annual plans it isn’t obligated to send a reminder unless the law where you live requires one. You still have to pay if you don’t cancel before renewal.
  • If you have an annual plan that is paid monthly, LegalZoom says you are responsible for all twelve monthly payments once the subscription has renewed.
  • On a trial membership, LegalZoom says your subscription renews automatically and your card is charged when the trial ends, unless you cancel by calling (888) 310-0151 or through My Account.
  • Orders are cancelled differently from subscriptions. LegalZoom says to call (800) 773-0888 to cancel an order.

Will I get a refund?

Possibly, if you act fast. LegalZoom’s LZ Guarantee says you can chat or call to request a refund within 30 days of your initial subscription purchase, unless a listed exception applies. For example, legal plan fees aren’t refundable once you’ve completed an attorney consultation, and legal forms fees aren’t refundable once you’ve downloaded a form. After 30 days, it no longer refunds subscription services.

When does my subscription end after I cancel?

LegalZoom says your subscription remains active until the end of the then-current period, and it no longer renews automatically.

Is it different to cancel an order?

Yes. LegalZoom’s FAQ says that for orders you should call (800) 773-0888, while subscriptions can be cancelled in My Account or by calling (888) 310-0151.

When can I reach LegalZoom by phone?
