Cancel in your BetterHelp account
- Log in to your BetterHelp account.
- Open Menu, then My Account (or Account settings).
- Select Payment settings.
- Select Cancel Membership.
BetterHelp’s Opting Out page lists these steps for members who are currently receiving therapy.
Cancel on iPhone or iPad (billed by Apple)
If you subscribed to BetterHelp through the App Store, Apple bills you, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Open the Settings app and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
- Tap Cancel Subscription — you may need to scroll down. If there's no cancel button, or you see red expiration text, it's already cancelled.
BetterHelp’s pages describe cancelling in your BetterHelp account and list credit card, debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay as payment methods. They don’t mention billing through the App Store.

Good to know before you cancel
- Your membership must be cancelled before it renews to avoid the next billing cycle. BetterHelp’s Terms say subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel.
- Unused sessions in a billing cycle don’t roll over. BetterHelp’s Terms say sessions accrued but unused expire when that billing cycle ends.
- Cancelling your membership is separate from cancelling a session. BetterHelp’s Terms say late session cancellations (within 24 hours) and missed sessions may incur a fee.
- To opt out of BetterHelp completely, BetterHelp says to cancel your membership, then go to Menu, My Account, Personal Information and select Request Erasure.

BetterHelp cancellation FAQ
Will I get a refund?
It depends. BetterHelp’s payments guide says monthly subscription fees may be refunded on a case-by-case basis by contacting its Customer Success Team. The guide doesn’t give eligibility rules or amounts. BetterHelp’s Terms mention a 14-day cooling-off refund only for countries where the law requires one. Ask the support team at contact@betterhelp.com.
When does my access end after I cancel?
BetterHelp’s pages don’t say exactly. Its Terms say you must cancel before your membership renews to avoid the next billing cycle, and that unused sessions expire when a billing cycle ends. If you need to know your exact end date, ask the support team at contact@betterhelp.com.
Can I pause instead of cancelling?
BetterHelp’s payments guide says that if you want to take a break, you can choose to pause your subscription through the BetterHelp website or app. It also says you can contact the Customer Success Team about options that fit your situation.
Is there a fee to cancel my membership?
BetterHelp’s Terms say you can cancel your subscription at any time for any reason, and its payments guide says subscriptions can be cancelled without penalty. Late session cancellations and missed sessions are a separate matter and may incur a fee.
